Art Around Alicante

The maintenance of the greenery in all the Alicante's roundabouts means an annual cost of more than 1 million euros to the city council. It is an investment from which no citizen gets any benefit. This project sets out the transformation of this unnecessary expense in a social and cultural improvement to the city.

The main goal of this project is to promote culture and art and bring it to the citizens of all Alicante's neighborhoods. In order to do it, a new network of cultural spaces distributed by the roundabouts of the city will be created. Citizens will feel it as their places as certain types of activities proliferate, building a new city identity.
After a detailed study of the cultural activities in Alicante, three types of spaces are proposed:

- A first one dedicated to street art: the "Graffiti's Roundabout", where MurART program workshops will be held.- A second type of space oriented towards art exhibition and promotion of emerging artists and galleries: the "Exhibition Roundabout".

- Finally, a meeting space, the "Associations' Roundabout", which will accommodate all the activities of the collectives in the city.

After a formal research, one parametric model is defined for each type of space, so that the design will be adapted to each roundabout according to their size, rails, settlement and program.

In addition to this, lighting will be a very important feature, responsible for generating a dynamic image, and to demonstrate and even intensify the activity within the spaces.
